This year, my kids decided to try their hand at making their own lunches for school. They are old enough to do it, and they are ready to handle the challenge. As a parent who is a wee bit controlling in the food department, I want to make sure that they are making wise choices about what goes in their lunchboxes everyday. We obviously don't want them packing two cookies and a chocolate milk for lunch. So, we had a discussion with them both about what needs to go in a lunchbox, and then we made a checklist.
If your kids are ready to make their lunches on their own, make the process simpler for them. Check to see that they can reach everything they need without your help. Put lunchboxes in an easy spot for them to grab and fill on their own. Have napkins and plastic utensils ready for them to use.
