If you have kids, you are preparing for back to school. Maybe yours have already started, or maybe you are one of the lucky people who start after Labor Day, but either way, it’s around back to school time!
We are all looking forward to heading back to our normal routine. Seeing school friends. Waking up early to the alarm. Doing hours of homework every night… oh wait, maybe we aren’t really looking forward to it!
In order to set your children up for a successful year, and to ease your mind during homework hour (or hours), setting up a well-stocked homework station is a great way to start.
First, find an area for the homework zone. Do they do homework at the kitchen table? Will they work better at a desk in their own rooms? In the home office area? Wherever it may be, make sure to designate a spot. And then turn to preparing that spot.
Get a letter sized bin and a pencil case for each child. Both are easy to find and cheap this time of year. Label them with your child’s name. Grab a few extra pencils, crayons, markers, rulers and pens when you buy your school supplies to fill your at home pencil box. It is easier for your kiddos to get their homework finished quickly if they do not need to search the house for their red crayon every day.
Use the letter sized bin to hold sight word cards, multiplication flashcards, extra lined paper, or whatever else your child might need for homework.
Lastly, find a cabinet or shelf to tuck away all of these homework supplies. Choose a place that your child can reach on their own to make set up and clean up a breeze.
