What To Do With Collections

I was going to title this post "What to do with your child's collections", but I have a lot of clients with collections too.  Star Wars figures, tea sets, stamps, rocks, shiny objects, whatever.  Many people have collections.  But what exactly should be done with them?

1. Collections that are nice enough to display
If you have a collection of something interesting or beautiful. Figure out a way to display it.  No one knows that you own twenty old cameras if they are in a box at the bottom of some closet.  Get them out and dust them off.  Buy some shelves and place them there.  Decorate with your collections, and let everyone enjoy their beauty.

2. Collections that are not nice enough to display
Fine, you have been collecting rocks since you were two. One from every state, or something. Buy a really nice box, and put them in the top of the closet. Your guests do not want to see them.  And your action figure collector's items from the 70's? Again, buy a watertight box, label it, and put them in the attic.  Maybe you should not display them, unless they look really cool in your kid's playroom.

3. Collections that have become too much
Think about what you love collecting. Do you still enjoy it.  Do you still marvel at its beauty?  Do you still want to own the collection?  Do you want to purge it? Or do you want to keep it?
