Sometimes my ideas don’t work out like I think they will. I know, I know, this shocks so many of you. :) Although, maybe the more amazing thing is that I am willing to admit when the best laid plan fails. That was the case with my makeshift gift wrap station. I really have images of being Martha Stewart with my gift wrap center, but the truth is, I just don’t love gift wrap. Give me a bag and some tissue paper to stuff inside, and we’ll call it a day. You are just never going to get a gift from me that looks like this.
Since I have moved into this house, my gift wrap stuff has been relocated a few times. First, it was in a bin above my washer and dryer, but then everything kept getting squished and ruined in there. Then, it was in two bins under the guest bed, but I just didn’t like having to crawl on the floor to get it. So, then I came up with a great plan to use the blank space behind the door in my laundry to hang all of my supplies. I wanted it to look like this.
But mine ended up like this because I refused to spend any money on this project.
Needless to say, it just wasn’t working for me. The wrapping paper kept falling over. The gift bags were getting squished, and the door kept knocking things off their hooks. I needed a new plan. And then last week, while reading i heart organizing, the contributor that day, Chelsea from Two Twenty One, used her empty dresser to hold her gift wrap. Here is a link to her post about it. What a great idea! I had an empty dresser that I kept for guests, but no one ever stays long enough to need a whole dresser.
The top drawer holds gift bags: Christmas bags on one side, and birthday bags on the other.
The second drawer holds wrapping paper, tissue paper, ribbons and bows, and other wrapping supplies. Hopefully, this will be a better solution than I had before. I’ll let you know how it works out!
