If you walk into The Container Store, you will see no less than 50 different types of hangers. Velvet lined ones,. Plastic ones. Wood ones. Clip ones. Ones for pants. Ones for skirts. Ones just for kids. Ones for belts, scarves, necklaces and more.
Most people don't care that much about their hangers. But some people have very strong opinions about which hanger is THE BEST. Even professional organizers differ in their opinions on them.
But the fact is, whatever hanger you choose needs to do its job. It needs to hang up your clothes. If your clothes are never getting hung up, or are always falling off, or your clothes are getting ruined, then your hangers are not working for you.
Just like hangers, there is no one method of organizing that works. If you put several organizers in one space, they might all have different ideas about how to organize it. But they would still be doing their job, organizing it to simplify your life.
However, there have been a few books out lately that talk about the ONLY way to organize. But the truth is there is no one way, no perfect method. The only method that is perfect is the one that works for you. Which is why as an organizer, I find out about your individual lifestyle, tastes, ways of doing things. Each house may look different. Each kitchen may have different needs. The goal of organizing your home is to create a space and a plan that you can continue to implement, that you can keep organized long after the organizer leaves.
So don't stress about filing your shirts a certain way, or having it all look picture perfect. You need to do you, or it won't make your life more organized.
